About First Eye Care Services

We are a Colorado owned and operated provider, registered with the Colorado Secretary of State, serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our founder

Paul Osei Afriyie

First Eye Care Services was founded by Paul Osei Afriyie, a pastor, who has a son with level 3 autism.

Paul's care for his son Aaron, and for others like him, is the reason this organization exists. He watched Aaron come to the end of his schooling and saw the question that every family in this position eventually faces. What happens now? Where does he go? Who will know him the way we know him?

Rather than accept the usual answers, Paul built somewhere for people with significant disabilities to find their place in the world, and to build a community with one another. He serves as Director and President of First Eye Care Services.

Our mission

To assist persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be healthy, safe and active members of their community.

Our goal

To provide safe and comfortable living conditions that support a positive mental state alongside consistent, high quality care, so that each person can live in the community of their choice and pursue their own goals, interests and relationships.

What we promise

Love, patience, and compassion

Those three words appear in our founding documents, not as decoration but as the standard we hold staff to. In practice they look like this.

  • Each person leads and designs their own person-centered plan, built to maximize independence while maintaining health and safety.
  • People choose their living environment, including interviewing and choosing their own housemates and assistants.
  • Homes are clean, well maintained, and located in safe, friendly neighborhoods.
  • People are taught their rights and how to use them, and we use the least restrictive interventions necessary.
  • Where a rights restriction is genuinely necessary for health and safety, it is explained and informed consent is obtained.
  • Staff are trained in person-centered practices before they support anyone.
